Wedding Weekend

Because so many of you are coming from out of town, and because we want to maximize our time to visit with you, we are having our ceremony on Friday night, the 26th, and our reception on Saturday night, the 27th. We will also be having a casual brunch on Sunday, the 28th. We hope that you can arrange to make your visit a long weekend, so that we can spend as much time together as possible.

San Diego

San Diego is a fun city to visit, and we hope you all make the most of your time here. In addition to the ceremony and reception, we will be suggesting activities throughout the weekend. If you want to plan ahead, check out Alegra's suggestions here.

Friday Ceremony

The ceremony will be held at 4pm, Friday September 26th at Vacation Isle in Mission Bay Park in San Diego.

We are at number 14 on this map.

Saturday Reception

The reception will be held at Ocean View Villas, 1352-64 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego, CA 92107. The reception will be held outside in the courtyard, so dress appropriately for an ocean breeze in the evening. The evening will begin at 5pm.

The Ocean View Villas are at the north end of Sunset Cliffs Natural Park (at the top of the green area above number 5 on this map).

Sunday Brunch

All are invited to join us for Brunch Sunday morning at 10:45am.

Brunch will be held at Third Corner, and is $14.95 for your selection from the brunch menu.

Find directions here.

Getting Around

Most of the weekend events will be occurring at or near the reception site, which is located between the Ocean Beach and Point Loma neighborhoods. This is only about a 10-15 minute cab ride from the airport (about $15).

The ceremony and reception sites are about three miles apart, and we will be asking some local friends to stop by the Ocean View Villas to carpool with out-of-towners, and of course encouraging car-pooling between all guests staying in the area. It would be a long walk (approximately 60 minutes), but only about a 20 minute bike ride. There is plenty of parking at the ceremony site, and enough street parking around the reception area.

Check out this interactive map to get directions. It already has directions between the ceremony and reception locations. You can add additional locations to get specific directions.

You probably won't need a car except for possibly getting to the ceremony site. As stated above, we will arrange for locals to come by Ocean View Villas and pick up carpoolers beforehand. On top of saving you money, San Diego is much better when viewed by bike!

Hourly Car Rentals

If you'd like to rent a car for the whole weekend, many car rental companies can be found at the San Diego Airport as well.

Accommodation

The reception will be at Ocean View Villas in Point Loma.

There is a hotel right next door called The Inn at Sunset Cliffs. We have not reserved rooms here, but there are several types of rooms available. These range in quality and price from $125-350, plus sales & hotel tax. Please book with them directly at their website. Tell them you are in town for a local wedding and they should give you a discount!

Of course there are lots of other hotels in San Diego to choose from. Areas nearest to the weekend events include Mission Bay, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, and Point Loma. Check out this map of hotels in the Ocean Beach area for more ideas.

What to Pack

For those of you who will be coming from out of town, it is important to consider what you will pack for the weekend getaway. San Diego temperatures are fairly mild, but don't be fooled by the numbers. The way the air feels is much different than what the numbers might suggest.

San Diego can feel very cold when it is over cast or when the sun goes down. Please be sure to bring a jacket for both day and night. Likewise, it can be very warm and sunny here, and you should bring your beach gear, hat, swimsuit, and sunscreen. On the other hand there could be Santa Ana conditions, which means it will be very hot and dry both day and night. In short, be prepared for anything.

While there is little chance for rain in September (that's why we chose it!), you should still be prepared for both sun and fog. A mid-weight jacket for the day, a nicer and warmer jacket or wrap for the evening reception, short-sleeved shirts and light weight pants or skirts for the sunny days, a sweater for layering during day or night, and shorts or skirts with tanks on the warmest days are all appropriate items to bring with you.

Also be sure to bring your camera so you can send us lots of photos!

Children

Children & babies are welcome to attend the wedding festivities. Please note that we will not be providing any kind of accommodations for children. Also, if your children are fully mobile, you should be aware that the wedding reception will be held cliff/beach side, with no fence.

Registry

Many people have asked us about a registry. We certainly do not want our wedding celebration to cause undue financial burden, but if you are interested in bringing us a gift here are a few ideas.

We are registered at Amazon.com. However, we are currently in the middle of a major bathroom remodel, and this has dampened our ability to register for certain items because of the upheaval the remodel has caused our home. We would be more than happy to accept a gift towards this process.

A gift certificate to a place that would offer us the opportunity to furbish our bathrooms with linens, etc. when we are finally completed would also be appreciated. This would also allow us to get additional home items that we unfortunately aren't ready for right now. There are several departments stores near us in San Diego, including Macy's and Sears.

We would also be honored to have a gift in our name or a membership to a charitable organization such as Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, National Resource Defense Council, Stand Up For Kids (helps homeless children), Cactus Conservation Institute or any other that makes you think of us.

As most of you know, we also like to eat out. If you know of a vegetarian-friendly restaurant in San Diego that you think we should try (or know we like!), we would love for you to provide us with the chance.

Of course we also know that we are blessed with incredibly creative friends, and we welcome your ideas that we may not have come up with on our own.
